This is the second book featuring Detective Cassie Maddox (In The Woods was the first). In The Likeness
Cassie goes undercover to investigate from the inside the murder of a
girl who shares her face and the name of a prior undercover identity she
used on a case years ago.
As she is recovering emotionally from the
aftermath of her last big murder case she gets in deeper than she
thought she would and what follows is a gripping who done it. I didn’t
figure this one out until close to the end, something I love in a
mystery. And Tana French has such an enjoyable writing style. The use of
“arse” & “shite” and her way of painting a picture of the Irish
settings make her stories well worth the 300-400 pages they take to
tell.
