I’m reading my way through all of Emily Giffin’s books. This is my third.
Baby Proof is the story of Claudia. She is married to Ben
and feels like she is one of the rare few who truly are with the perfect
for them person. Until Ben goes back on the biggest thing they had in
common, not wanting children, and has decided he wants to be a dad.
Claudia however still is in the not for me thanks camp on the issue.
Throw into the mix Claudia’s best friend Jess (in love with a married
man), her mess of a mom and her two sisters and the dynamic is a family
that you feel very deeply for.
The story is told in first person from Claudia’s view. One of the
things that struck me about this book is how well the author does in
giving Claudia a real voice. She starts out telling her story in a very
matter of fact tone but as time and events unfold you begin to hear the
slips into emotion. It felt real and smooth, nothing forced at all even
if the outcome was pretty typical of this type of story.
